Helpful Tips (And Resources) for Website Editors
A warm welcome to all new site editors – and for those returning from summer break, welcome back!
If it's been a minute since you worked on your department website, we'd like to give you three steps to get back into the groove of editing your Drupal website.
First, visit the WebTech website. The site has a wealth of information available including step-by-step help articles, frequently asked questions, and case studies of our work (great for brainstorming new ideas for your home page design to improving automated functionality for your site).
Discover articles on how to:
- add new faculty and staff to the directory
- request editing permissions for yourself, or for a new staff member
- edit your online bio within your department
- best practices for online content writing
- learn how other departments built parts of their websites by using a common browser tool and more.
Second, request a Silktide Report for any website you manage if you don't already receive it. This time saving tool can pinpoint exactly where any typos may be across your website, alert you to broken links, identify poor grammar/duplicated words and point out places where the site’s heading structure is mismanaged.
One outstanding feature of Silktide is the Training Academy. The academy includes on-demand training videos, all between 2-6 minutes long which shows you exactly how easy it is to make your website 100% accessible. We recommend the Getting Started series, which contains 6 short videos that walk you through the intuitive software.
And finally, take a quick look through the Tips Tricks and Workarounds. You may save yourself an email to Webhelp by finding your vexing issue (and the workaround) on this ever-expanding page.
As always, we are here to support you and answer any web related questions you may have. Please feel free to send an email to web.help@wwu.edu explaining your request. Be sure to explain the scenario with details and include the link to the URL in question, and we will respond as soon as we can.
