Overview
The Office of Equity is a relatively new department at Western Washington University. It brings together two complementary functions: the existing compliance function and an education and community training function. In addition, the Office of Equity examines Western’s systems and structures through an equity lens; providing visibility to, and advancing, key initiatives for inclusive student success and ADEI work on campus.
Goal
The Office of Equity required an online presence with a robust and flexible platform to complement and provide structure for the strategic exponential growth of the department. Their goal was to engage increased numbers of individuals and groups in education, dialogue and learning about AEDI initiatives as well as offering an opportunity to build community on and off campus.
Strategy
We built out the website including as many photos showcasing the various types of students across campus and extended locations to help build on their theme of creating community. Along with sharing the work being done, the Office of Equity included a repository to hold reports and display Western's enrollment information along with staff and faculty retention rates and demographics. They included a vast array of resources for site visitors along with featured linked Upcoming Events and past events of interest.
